Skills Development #6A: Moodle

Creating a quiz in moodle is not userfriendly for the administrator, making the desired question difficult to create. It does not show "life" in it's interface, and gets the administrator dizzy and bored. We did not like the experience of making this kind of quiz in Moodle.

Introduction to my self (June 22, 2011)

Julius Paul T. Wong
2007-78200
Educ190

April 28, 1989, a very adorable baby boy was born; a true Caviteno,
who was born and raised in Dasmarinas, Cavite. His parents, Julie and
Apolinario Wong, together with his sister, were very blessed because
of the gift, their “Balong” as they call him, they received. They are
just four in the family, and he is the youngest. As he turns into a
very playful kid people can see that he would become a really
independent man in the future because at the age of 6 he can already
go home alone from school. As he reaches his high school in Colegio
San Juan de Letran in Manila, his potential as an athlete was much
observed. He became a member of their varsity basketball team, and at
the same time the school’s varsity track and field team. Becoming one
of the best players in the team, he was called to be part of different
basketball teams that played in different basketball leagues like NCAA
and the basketball team during the Palarong Pambansa 2007. He was also
part of the mythical 5 in one of the teams he was once in.

Now, he is an already grown up man studying in the University of the
Philippines, Diliman. He is in the College of Human Kinetics taking up
a major in Bachelor of Sports Science. He was part of the varsity
volleyball team of the UP Fighting Maroons last season, and at the
same time he also competed, after a long time, with the varsity track
and field team where he played in the category of high jump. Now, he
is part of the UP Fighting Maroons basketball team, and also part of
the PBA D-League’s Junior Powerade team all at the same time.  Being a
very athletic person, he achieved his goals. He wants to be a
successful conditioning coach in the future and a basketball coach
someday. Although this man is focusing on his trainings to be a very
good athlete he always sees to it that his studies will not suffer. He
is a time manager, who can balance his studies and trainings at the
same. He can do all of these because of his dedication and passion in
everything that he does.

This man is very independent, time manager, a loving son and brother,
a friend, to everyone. This is Julius Paul Tacadena Wong, a man of
hard work and dedication in everything that he does.

Relative Advantages

Learning Problem
Technology Solutions
Relative Advantage
Concepts are new, foreign (e.g., mathematics, physics principles.
  problem solving, drill and practice

-practice the skills related to the topic like when solving a problem in math
-mostly the teacher use the method of flashing a card with different operations

Concepts are abstract, complex (e.g., physics principles, biology systems).
 tutorial, simulation
to enhance their ability one should practice and explore the lessons they learned especially when having an experiment

Time-consuming manual skills (e.g., handwriting, calculations, data collection) interfere with learning high-level skills.
 problem solving and simulation

showing of different ways of computing or calculating problems must be taught in here

Students find practice boring (e.g., basic math skills, spelling, vocabulary, test preparation).
 instructional games
-for the students to be more enthusiactic about the topic, a teacher must be creative and active in giving class or group activities

Students cannot see relevance of concepts to their lives (e.g., history, social studies).
 - drill and practice
 - to be able to relate the things they learned about the subject in their everyday lives
Skills are “inert,” i.e., students can do them but do not see where they apply (e.g., mathematics, physics).
simulation

-for fostering exploration and the students will be involved
Students dislike preparing research reports, presentations.
 instructional games
-instructional games must apply here for the students to be interested in doing an activity, they will also have fun at the same time they are learning

Students need skills in working collaboratively, opportunities to demonstrate learning in alternative ways.
 drill and practice

 - to replace the usual ways of learning instead of trying different learning stations

Students need technological competence in preparation for workplace.
 -simulation

- for exploration
Teachers have limited time for correcting students' individual practice items.
 tutorials
 - for the teachers to be able to save time in correcting their students
No teachers available for advanced courses.
 tutorials
 - serves as an alternative learning strategies
Students need individual reviews of missed work.
 tutorials
 - for the students to be able to catch up their missed works

Schools have insufficient consumable materials (e.g., science labs, workbooks).
 simulations

replacement of consumable materials like having field trips etc.

Students need quick access to information and people not locally available.
 use of internet

so that the students can easily access a lot of information from the internet

Problems of technology in the Phillipines

1) Lack of funds for Computer Education especially in the rural areas
-- As a student, we could appeal or suggest to the Congress the advantages of having computers in education. Then, maybe when the higher officials knew about it, they would allot bigger funds for computer education. A simple petition could make a big difference.
2) Illiteracy of some teachers
-- Those who are educated in computer technology should pass on their knowledge to their fellow teachers. Also, they should educate traditional teachers in adjusting to the new technology of computers in education. In addition, those teachers that are learning computer technology should have an open mind in accepting these new ideas.
3) Use of technology in destroying a reputation of a person (Social  networking sites)
-- If possible, there should be a law concerning the use of social networking sites in monitoring the negative inputs that they share. (e.g.: In Twitter, bad mouthing a certain person) This could mean a hard job but it will protect a lot of people especially celebrities and public figures. In addition, users should be literate enough to control their posts and not use social networking sites in a bad way.
